Description: Photographs throughout Ad: Offered for auction from a recent estate sale is an ORIGINAL RUSSIAN MOSIN NAGANT MODEL1891/30 SECOND MODEL BAYONET WITH REFURBISHMENT STAMPS This Socket bayonet designed for use with the 7.62 mm. M1891/30 Mosin-Nagant rifle. The M1891/30 was Soviet Russia's standard service rifle during the Second World War. The M1891/30 bayonet has a press stud to secure the bayonet in place, rather than the locking ring of the M1891. The Serial number of 6908 impressed on the socket end of the bayonet. The serial number was applied only when the bayonet was paired with a rifle. This example has been refurbished, as evidenced by the square with diagonal slash refurbishment mark. Many of the wartime tool marks were cleaned up during the refurbishment process. This bayonet has a couple of refurbishment marks. One is a Square mark with a line drawn through it which as noted above I believe from research was at the 1st GRAU originally GAU Arsenal at Balakleya (in present-day Ukraine). GRAU is an abbreviation of Glávnoye rakétno-artilleríyskoye upravléniye Ministérstva oboróny Rossíyskoy Federátsii (Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation). Scabbards were almost never issued with the bayonet, because most Russian soldiers were expected to keep the bayonet attached to the rifle when in use. For this reason the 1891 Mosin Nagant rifle was actually sighted to be fired with the bayonet fixed. In garrison the blade was simply reversed, the socket slipped over the barrel backwards. This is a M1891/30 Mosin Nagant Bayonet with a cruciform blade of 17" in very good to excellent condition with minimal wear and true screwdriver point. A few spots of light oxidation present on socket area. Total length is Bayonet is 21 inches. The M1891/30 bayonet has a press stud to secure the bayonet in place, rather than the locking ring of the M1891. Impressed on the locking stud is an impressed mark or proof of arsenal made at locking stud installed. A interesting point in the rib of the bayonet a 5 is impressed. I have included photographs of the book Bayonets from Janzens Notebook showing the bayonet along side the bayonets in the book noting Mosen Nagant bayonet M1891/30. The book is for reference only not in auction. I will accept PAYPAL. Items will be shipped Priority Mail usually next day after payment of Paypal, packaging and mail $14.95.
