Description: This vintage antique transitional fore plane, or jack plane (depending on who you ask) has plenty of rust and dust to attest to its age. Made by Sargent and Co, this is either a number 3417 type 3 made between 1910 and 1918 with a folded type lateral adjustment. The depth adjustment knob does still turn (albeit a little stiffly. A nice cleaning should fix that up well). The toe of the plane body is stamped: SARGENT VBN The model number is stamped below that but is difficult to make out. Please note that the tote is broken and if you intend to restore to user condition, this will need to be repaired. The thumb lever on the lever cap is missing as well See photos for further details
