Description: Set of 9 Antique Circa 1890 Theodore Haviland Limoges Game Bird Plates and Platter. This is an extraordinary set of 8 antique Theodore Haviland game bird plates and one large platter. It is unusual to see a complete set in such good condition. Each plate is hand-painted with a pair or more of different game birds in beautiful, subtle colors and highlighted in gold. There are 6 different sets of birds wading in water, standing or in flight with cumulus clouds bunching overhead. The scalloped edges are a deep aqua blue and heavily decorated in gold designed leaves. Each is signed by "J. Martin", a well-thought-of artist in the Haviland Studios. They bear the Theodore Haviland Limoges Mark 32, which dates these from between 1895 to approx. 1903. One plate is not stamped. They are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.Items are in amazing condition for their age. Minor surface and paint wear. Some discoloration on the backs of plates due to age.
