Description: Inscribed by both Ruby Bridges and her teacher, Ruth Henry. The Story of Ruby Bridges by Robert Coles. Ruby Bridges was the first African American child to attend formerly whites-only William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the 1960 New Orleans school desegregation crisis. She is the subject of the 1964 painting, The Problem We All Live With, by Norman Rockwell. This book is inscribed to the previous owner by Ruby Bridges, on the last page of the book (which has an illustration of her from the back). Opposite is an inscription from Barbara Henry, the teacher who taught Ruby at William Frantz Elementary School that year (it says, "May Ruby's story always inspire! Barbara Henry"). A very nice copy -- clean and tight, no writing or tears. No dj. Just a bit of edgewear to the glossy illustrated boards. Later printing, 1995, Scholastic. A rare find.
