Description: On offer, we have an original stipple engraving by Antoine Cardon. "The Right Hon: Sir Joseph Banks, Bart. K.B. President Of The Royal Society" is from an original picture by T. Lawrence and drawn by W. Evans. It was published Jan.1, 1810 By T. Cadwell & W. Davies, Strand, London. This measures 21" X 14" with the portrait and print approximately 13 1/2" X 11". The price tag "$125" is from an art gallery in Los Angeles where this was purchased decades ago. About the subject: Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820) was a British explorer and naturalist. He sailed around the world with Captain James Cook and was President of the Royal Society from 1778 until his death in 1820. You will enjoy researching this interesting man. The engraving is clear, clean and bold with a nice impression. The very old paper is wrinkled and has a small tear at the top. As I am not an expert on art, please view my photographs for more description. This is from my friend who is moving to a much smaller home and parting with many of his treasures. I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping when possible.
