Josemaria Escriva (1902-1975) was a Spanish priest who founded Opus Dei, an organization of laypeople and priests dedicated to the teaching that everyone is called to holiness, and that ordinary life can be a path to sanctity. Pope John Paul II canonized him in 2002. He is the patron saint of Opus Dei and also of people who have diabetes.
