Description: Used SME style sliding tonearm base for using Ortofon Type G or Type A tonearms. I bought this new a few years back from Japan, and have hardly used it. It is made of stainless steel, and the workmanship is first-rate. The bedplate of this sliding tonearm base has the same footprint as that of SME tonearms (see Photo 2 for a side-by-side comparison of this base with an original SME base). If you are currently using an SME tonearm, you can simply mount this tonearm base onto your plinth. The inner diameter of the tonearm collar is 20 mm, which means it can take any Ortofon (and Micro) tonearms. Since the mounting collar can be slid back and forth to adjust the overhang and mounting distance, you can use Ortofon SPU Type G, Type A or Type C cartridges on your tonearm. You can buy this new at eBay for over US$500 (eBay item number285548521167). Or you can get this hardly-used one and save about US$100. This one is the "high" version, and is particularly suitable for pairing with "tall" turntables, a notable example being the Garrard 301. Please study the photos for the condition of the base and how it is used. Please note that you are buying only the stainless steel tonearm base featured in Photo 1. Other items shown in the photos, including the SME tonearm base, the Ortofon RMG-212 and SPU Type G cartridge are NOT part of the sale -- they are for demonstration and comparison only. To keep shipping and handling cost reasonable, this will be sent from Hong Kong by Registered Airmail Packet which provides what the Hong Kong Post Office calls "Partial Tracking".
