Description: Saber toothed tigers, Smilodon Fatalis went extinct 12,000 years ago at the end of the ice age, this vertebrae bone fossil survived in an Iowa river all that time, which is only partly why it is so rare. There were substantially fewer carnivores than prey mammals in the Pleistocene epoch as well. Fatalis was not the only carnivorous cat, but it was the biggest saber cat. Measures 2.25” x 2” x 2”, and is solidly mineralized in nice condition.
