This Print features the once common form of advertising on the side of barns. This was done regularly before billboards became popular. This barn is advertising Mail Pouch Chewing Tobacco. Print Information:“Landscapes, according to a recent survey, are the most popular limited edition print subject matter across the country. The artist’s success with “Memory Lane” and the “old Kentucky Home” series reflect that fact. Mr. Vittitow considers himself a regional artist in terms of subject matter. He plans to pretty much continue that way as his region of the country is where his market is. One standard Americana and sough central regional landscape he has not heretofore done is represented by “Snow-Bound”. “Snow-Bound” presents a typical but vanishing scene, i.e. barn with sign. He chose a winter landscape as snow scenes are his favorite and because his “Winter at My Old Kentucky Home” is probably the most popular of that series. The results of his efforts brought to mind John Greenleaf Whittier’s poem entitled “Snow-Bound”. For those nor familiar with that long work, the artist has quoted below a few chosen lines which he feels especially relate to the painting. The sun through dazzling snow-mist shone. The bitter wind unheeded blew. The moaning tree-boughs swaying blind And from the shagbark overhead The grizzled squirrel dropped his shell. O’er windy hill, through clogged ravine, And woodland paths that wound between Low drooping pine-boughs winter-weighed. Next morn we wakened with the shout, Of merry voices high and clear. Of winter joys his boyhood knew Of simple life and country ways.NOTE: Thank you for buying this limited edition print. To assure the most authentic color reproduction, and expensive high quality, special-coated paper stock has been used. You are urged to be careful in handling it prior to framing to prevent scratching or crimping. Do not lay heavy objects on it as they may leave marks on the image. Lastly, always keep away from direct sun rays as much as possible as the ultra-violet rays are graphic arts’ worst enemy.
