St. Gertrude, the Patron Saint of Cats

Description: St. Gertrude of Nevilles is the Patron Saint of Cats with a feast day of March 17. She shares it with St. Patrick. This abbess took the veil some time around 640, but it wasn't until the time of the Black Death that she was venerated as a protector against rats and mice. However, it is cat lovers who revere her most of all. Around 1980, she became designated as the patron of cats with the cat as one of her attributes. Although this patronage with cats is not official from the Vatican, tradition has made it wildly popular and recognized. Yes, the Roman Catholic Church has its own Cat Lady. This is the first respectful figure of St. Gertrude. There was another several years ago -- actually, an action figure. In 2019, negotiations began with a manufacturer of religious sculptures and other décor to produce a figure of St. Gertrude. And finally, after many designs, the figure has become available to cat lovers everywhere. This poly resin figure is 4 1/2" tall and hand-painted. Her habit is black and white with a gold rosary dangling from her waist. She holds a gold crosier in one hand and an orange tabby cat in the other. At her feet is a gray kitty and a bowl of food. Her name is on her stand in gold lettering.
