Description: -Turned pewter cup.-Produced by the Stieff Company for the Smithsonian Institution.-Available from 1975 to the early 1980s.-This is a commissioned historic reproduction of a cup in the Smithsonian's silver and pewter collection. The original cup is part of a punch serving set presented by citizens of Baltimore to Major George Armistead, commander of Fort McHenry, for his defense of the city during the War of 1812. -Stamped on bottom: Stieff mark, Smithsonian mark, and S1-8P-17.-Lightly brushed satin finish (cup was available in both a satin and bright finish).-6 plain rings near the top of the cup, and 7 plain rings around the cup's middle. The cup's base is an attached band of pewter, with 4 decorative rings on it.-Capacity is 9 ounces.-Height is 3.25 inches.-Diameter at top is 2.75 inches; diameter at base is 2 inches.-Condition: This piece is in great used, vintage condition. It has some small, faint scratches here and there--but nothing more than a pewter cup would get from normal use. It appears to have been responsibly used and stored.-Very clean, and ready to use or display.
