Description: Stunning Silver Coral Native American Squash Blossom Necklace Purchased from Skip Maisel's Trading Post in Albuquerque,NM in early 2000's. Maisel's Trading Post had its beginning in 1930, and by 1940 was the largest of its kind on Route 66, employing as many as 300 Native American craftsman. In 1993 it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Sadly, at the beginning of Covid the last Maisel (owner) decided to shut down and retire. This is a stunning piece that will never fail to get you compliments. Beautifully handmade. Horseshoe Naja is 2-3/4" diameter with a center dangling coral stone Length: The bead necklace is 23-1/4" long from end to end 19 Cabochon Mediterranean red coral bezel set stones 10 Leaf and bugle squash blossoms The carved leaf detail around the squash blossoms is extraordinary. Marked Sterling Silver on the Naja Above the sterling mark is a makers mark. All mounted on Sterling Silver uniform size beads Simple hook and eye clasp The Navajo word for the squash blossom bead literally means “bead that spreads out”. This tri-petal form first appeared about 1880. Scholars believe that this flower motif was introduced by the Spanish as a variation of the pomegranate flower blossom, and the Navajo adapted it as a symbol of their revered squash. CONDITION: Excellent. No condition issues. Only worn 2 or 3 times. It has been stored for 25 years in a tarnish proof silver bag, so no tarnish. Never had to polish it. Please pay within 3 days.
