Description: A STUNNING ANTIQUE BIRD'S EYE MAPLE PICTURE FRAME ~ with excellent veneers which extend to the sides of the frame illustrating just how good the quality, the detail in the grain is amazing, many rosewood/maple frames were painted black at the sides to save on materials, the veneers on this frame clearly visible verso all the way around ~ with NO major losses that I can see, with Georgian fitments verso ... Measuring approx 20" by 16 & 3/8" (External) ~ With a rebate (to fit a picture) 16 & 1/2" by 12 & 3/4" (Internal) ~ Or, in centimetres 42cm by 32.5cm ~ Sight size is 15 & 7/8" by 12" ~ With a depth of 1 & 3/8" ~ ... a lovely old frame with incredible age, I would say most probably Georgian ... Click images to enlarge Description A STUNNING ANTIQUE BIRD'S EYE MAPLE PICTURE FRAME ~ with excellent veneers which extend to the sides of the frame illustrating just how good the quality, the detail in the grain is amazing, many rosewood/maple frames were painted black at the sides to save on materials, the veneers on this frame clearly visible verso all the way around ~ with NO major losses that I can see, with Georgian fitments verso ... ... a lovely old frame with incredible age, I would say most probably Georgian judging by the remnants of 'hanging' holes at the top of the frame, brass rings were once here & are now situated at the back of the frame ~ a frame with real character, with a super-tactile cushion border frieze, with only a few age-related losses & these are confined to the rear bottom corners so not viewable once hung ~ comes with a rather charming gilt slip which is entirely original to the frame ~ Measuring approximately 20" by 16 & 3/8" (External) ~ With a rebate (to fit a picture) 16 & 1/2" by 12 & 3/4" (Internal) ~ Or, in centimetres 42cm by 32.5cm ~ Sight size is 15 & 7/8" by 12" ~ With a depth of 1 & 3/8" ~ * dating at a guess to the early 19th century frames this is a fantastic bird's eye maple frame with bags of ancient character & charm, it has wonderful maple veneers to the border which extend to the sides of the frame, amazingly there appear to be NO major losses ~ ... the border is a wide & inwardly bevelled affair with a smooth bevelled ogee cushion, the border veneer has a rich maple tone & the whole thing feels of incredible quality, this is the work of a highly skilled frame-maker ~ ... it is very much a tactile piece and feels good to hold, the slip itself is quite lovely & is a delightful stepped ogee design, it is the original gilding & is showing its age yet has an incredible charm as a consequence & entirely original to the frame ~ ... I think that these frames have a wonderfully naive 'folk' appeal all their own, this frame was no doubt originally designed to hold a cherished Embroidery or Sampler ~ This frame will suit a special picture OR perhaps an image of a loved one; certainly, a frame to grace any wall ~ Thank you for looking ~ If you have any questions please ask ~ Condition In Very Good condition; incredible considering the great age, a little wear to the top rail & there are a few age-commensurate shallow dings/scratches along the border BUT, amazingly I can see NO major losses, some age-related gilt loss & wear to the slip & with just one or two losses to lower back corners the largest around (see photos 12,13 & 14) 1cm in size; together with with the odd minor age commensurate ding to the border, but in truth nothing particularly noteworthy ~ Super strong corners ~ Age commensurate wear ~ With NO major damages OR losses ~ Please refer to the photographs ~ They accurately represent the very good antique condition ~ Any significant damages OR losses are always shown in the photos ...
