The Black Surinam cherry tends to be sweeter and less resinous. The most widely known of the edible-fruited Eugenia species, because of its great adaptability, the Surinam cherry, Eugenia. uniflora is also called Brazil or Brazilian cherry, Cayenne cherry, pitanga, and, unfortunately, Florida cherry. The Surinam cherry is adapted to tropical and subtropical regions and grows in almost any type of soil–sand, sandy loam, stiff clay, soft limestone–and can even stand waterlogging for a time, but it is intolerant of salt. Place all plants in a spot of moderate temperatures (70-80F) in good light but NOT in a direct sun for two weeks until they adjust from shipping in darkness .
