This is left behind after the nut dries and hardens. They also each have an area where the stem was attached that will have a slight indentation. These are both normal and unavoidable but are good to keep in mind when working with them. Smaller nuts are likely to have smaller hollow areas. Tagua is a popular earth-friendly alternative to ivory.
