Text description beneath the picture (subject to any spelling errors due to the OCR program used) TAYMOUTH CASTLE.This is the Highland seat of the Marquis of Breadalbane whose estates are said to extend unbroken for a hundred miles, from here to the Sound of Mull. The original Castle was built in 1580 by Sir Cohn Campbell of Lochawe, but, except a small portion of this preserved in the west wing, the existing building is all of the nineteenth century. It stands about a mile from Kenmore, at the foot of Drummond Hill, and is surrounded by pleasure-grounds celebrated for their beauty and grandeur. Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort were entertained here on their first visit to Scotland, in 1842, in a manner which made a deep impression upon the royal guests. The Castle is surrounded by magnificent timber, and on both sides of the Tay there is a fine beech walk.
