Description: This is a custom 12" - two figure lot of two of my favorite characters (John Steed and Emma Peel) on one of my favorite old tv series, The Avengers. The Avengers was a British espionage tv series that ran from 1-7-61 thru 4-21-69 (5-17-69 Great Britain). This tv series had 161 (one hour ) episodes. Patrick McNee played the lead roll (starting in the second series) of John Steed with Dianna Rigg (starting in 1965- series 4-5) as Emma Peel. In the first series Steed played the helper of agent David Keel (played by Ian Hendry). McNee was very popular and Hendry wanted to embark on a movie career. During the second series Steed went from the rough trenchcoat wearing agent to a stereotypical dressed English gentleman. Steed's assistant was Cathy Gale (played by Honor Blackman). This pairing set the format that endured through rest of the series featuring snappy banter between the smartly dressed main characters, Steed and Gale. The show became very popular. Eventually Blackman would become a Bond girl and her replacement was needed. In 1965 The Avengers was sold to ABC and became the first British series to appear on American prime time television in history. Dianna Rigg was Steed's new partner, Emma Peel, and was great. Her name was derived from comments from writers that they wanted to develop the new character to have "man appeal". this comment would show up in notes as the abbreviation "MAppeal" hence her name. This was the time I remembered the show from. Rigg and McNee were great together and their characters had chemistry. This was one of the coolest shows on television when it was on. There were very good stories with believable characters. PLEASE NOTE- While this figure lot does not look exactly like Steed / McNee or Peel / Rigg, there is a nice resemblance to both and the figure lot displays well. ALSO note-the faux umbrella does not open but displays nicely as seen. sold as is. stands included. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thanks for the look, have fun shopping!
