Description: THE DAY OF THE BEAST Zane Grey Walter J. Black Collection Class Western Novel or Short Story. This is a World War I story. You can see this in the dedication. Would pair well with “Call of the Canyon.” Condition is "Good.” The books are used and show their age of 50-70 years old. There is slight wear on the binding, but otherwise looks nice and clean! Excellent reading. Zane Grey was the best selling western author of the early 1900's. He is known for his remarkable eye and incredibly detailed description of nature, including landscapes, plant life, and animals. Although many of Grey's characters are gunfighters and outlaws, he is sympathetic to Native Americans and portrays strong female characters (see Betty Zane). He is partial to the Tonto region of Arizona, but as a sportsman, he traveled the world and spent a great deal of time fishing in the South Pacific (see The Reef Girl). The Walter J. Black collection of 75 books was distributed by book club subscription. It would have taken several years to collect in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Many of these books were originally published in the early 1900’s. Bound in hardcover with a beige canvas binding and attractive title art in blue and red background with the title of the book in gold print. See photos for design. All 75 books match. 65 of these books are fairly common. And include such famous titles as Arizona Ames and Riders of the Purple Sage (made into a film several times).
