Description: The Home Cook Book by Ella Mae Ives 1928 HC Third Edition Very Rare Copy A lot of research has been done in finding information about this author and her book. Mrs. W.H. Ella Mae Ives was a nationally known expert on diets and home economics. She had a daily radio show called "Homemakers Program" in Ohio. Ella Mae Ives was also a onetime state director of the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). The organization split off from feminists groups and focused on labor laws for women and children as well as prohibition and promoting abstinence from alcohol. Their efforts were rewarded with the passage of both the 18th and 19th amendments. The Blubird Flour Company is said to have sponsored a few of these home cookbooks. The books have the same style cover as this one, but a different author. Mary J. Lincoln was one of such prestigious authors chosen. Therefore, we know that there is historical significance for this time period that they would choose Ella Mae Ives as an author in 1928. Since she was so well respected in the dietary needs of people, this book even has sections on children, by age group, and the types of foods recommended. The recipes submitted for this book were carefully chosen by her, a team of others, and tested prior to printing. The last few pages of this book are left blank so that the person may add their own recipes. Another interesting note is that the inside page states: Copyright 1928, Author's name and her address. In reviewing this address, it still exists on a plot of land in Ohio in an area where homes are selling for approximately $500,000 +. So, perhaps this explains why it is difficult to find a copy of this book (and very few others that she has written). Perhaps she helped to fund this project as part of the organization for which she passionately was involved in, as a type of fundraiser. We may never know, as new owners live in the house
