Stephens (whose actual name was Steve Apostolof) and Ed Wood, Jr., the infamous creator of such gems as Plan 9 From Out Space and Glen or Glenda. While Apostolof wanted to create art films with big budgets, Wood just wanted to churn out film after film, always blaming others for his lack of commercial success. Apostolof and Wood even paired up in 1965 for a loosely based sequel to Plan 9 From Outer Space entitled Orgy of the Dead Includes: Fugitive Girls (aka Five Lost Women) Rated R, 1974, color Their Virgin Skin Violated in a Hell-Hole of Lost Souls! The film was written by Stephen and Wood and directed by Stephen and is noteworthy as this is Ed Wood's last on screen appearance, playing dual cameo roles as both the gas station attendant "Pops" and the sheriff, (wearing dark shades and a fake moustache). It's a simple storyline, where five women break out of prison (including `60's porn star Rene Bond) trying to find money one of the girls buried before being sent way. 4 are hardened criminals, the 5th was unjustly convicted. Most of the film is spent with the girls traveling around California, encountering hippies, beating up men and ultimately fighting amongst themselves. Drop Out Wife (aka The Sensuous Wife) Rated R, 1974 in color Women's Lib or Women's Fib? As was the case with Fugitive Girls, this film was written by Stephen and Wood and directed by Stephen and while starring Angela Carnon, they once again utilize the talents of Rene Bond again, adding the legendary Candy Samples for extra oomph. This is a surprisingly poignant film, far better than the poor execution, dealing with the trials and tribulations of a woman who gets married and after being physically and emotionally abused, seeks other outlets to find happiness. Gradually, with the encouragement of her close friend, her life spirals out of control. Watch for a brief cameo by Stephen in the bar scene! Lady Godiva Rides (aka Lady Godiva Meets Tom Jones) Rated X, 1969, color She Blew The Lid Off The Wild West! Only a Bulgarian ex-patriot (A.C. Stephen), could blend an 11th century noblewoman (Lady Godiva) with Tom Jones (circa 18th century ) and stick them into the late 19th century American west! This is a western comedy and period piece. When an English lord finds his wife Lady Godiva in bed with her lover Tom Jones they have to leave the country and go to the USA. Godiva ends up in a brothel and when Tom wants to save her he is challenged to a duel by the owner of the brothel. Stars Liz Rene. Rated X (for excessive nudity) CUTOMER REVIEW- "Fugitive Girls", co-written by Ed Wood, is a very fun B-sexploitation movie. Five women prisoners break out and are on the run. "Fugitive Girls" has naked breasts, bad acting, lesbians, hippies, bikers, hairy men, and that great Ed Wood dialogue. See the trailer for yourself on YouTube: search for "Exploitica - Fugitive Girls". This is the sort of movie Quentin Tarantino loves, roughly like "Switchblade Sisters". It's a B-movie with attitude: what it lacks in budget it makes up for in nudity, tough talk, and campy scenes. If one approaches it like Mystery Science 3000, there's a lot of unintended silliness to enjoy. Note that the movie does not closely resemble the famous Ed Wood movies of the 1950's, such as "Plan 9 from Outer Space". "Fugitive Girls" does not have the extremely strange filmmaking style of Wood's early films, but it does have his boldness and campiness. The print on the DVD is a little dusty and faded, but it looks okay. The DVD also includes the trailer, a few still photos, and a textual biography of Ed Wood. "Drop Out Wife" is 1970's soft core porn. The movie goes from one sex scene to another, with brief dialogue in between. Even as soft core porn, the movie is mediocre, because most of the actresses are plain and the sex scenes are very repetitive. Most sex scenes are missionary, but there is also an orgy and a few lesbians. I think this movie would mostly interest anyone curious about or nostalgic for 1970's soft core porn, because it does have a lot of attributes of 1970's porn: funky music, dubbed moaning, and camera tricks. There is very little here to engage Ed Wood fans. Even though Ed Wood co-wrote the screenplay, there is very little dialogue, and it mostly just serves as a transition to the next sex scene.
