Volume I frontispiece is a black and white engraving of author Conyers Middleton. Predominantly written in English with some Greek, Hebrew and Latin throughout. On a shelf, this set spans 6 inches. Conyers Middleton (1683-1750), was an English clergyman best known for his work "Life of Cicero". Even though he was highly regarded as one of the best stylists in English during the period, his success was fraught by controversy and disputes. Middleton's tone and personality comes through in his writing within this set. Unpaginated index. 372 pp. CONDITION: Overall VG. All five volumes were collated and found complete. Covers shows general wear. Hinges are cracked yet boards are still well attached. Red title label is missing from volumes I, III and V, and the green volume label is missing from volume III. Bookplates are affixed to the front pastedown as well as purple circular stamps, both reading "S. Clements Church Yarnall Library of Theology", present within each volume. This stamp is also present on the last page of each volume. Predominantly unmarked with the exception of library numbering occasionally within endpapers. Pages are bright and hardly foxed with an occasional exception and within endpapers, and the frontispiece has offset onto the title page. A very handsome set. VG.
