Star Notes, and in particular Silver Certificate Star Notes, are among the most valuable types of U.S. currency. A Star Note is actually a "replacement note" substituted by the Bureau of Printing and Engraving when a bill is accidentally misprinted or damaged. When an error is made, and a bill is deemed imperfect in it's manufacture and unsuitable for circulation, it is destroyed. Because it is illegal to produce a bill's serial number more than once, a Star Note is printed as a replacement with a small star preceding or following the serial number. This set includes one Silver Certificate and one Federal Reserve Star Note, packaged in a two-sided folio with text providing a history of both bills. A certificate of authenticity is included.
