The unit was originally activated in 1965 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and was deployed to Vietnam in 1966.The 60th Aviation Company was based at Bear Cat, near the town of Long Thanh, in southern Vietnam. The unit was equipped with UH-1D and UH-1H "Huey" helicopters, and was primarily responsible for providing support to ground troops. The Ghost Riders were known for their ability to fly in low-light conditions and were often called upon for night missions.The unit was involved in several major operations during the war, including the Tet Offensive in 1968 and the Cambodian Incursion in 1970. The Ghost Riders also provided support during the Siege of Khe Sanh in early 1968.In addition to its combat missions, the 60th Aviation Company also provided logistical support to other units in the area, transporting troops, equipment, and supplies throughout the region.
