US Army Campaigns of World War II - Algeria & French Morocco, Operation Torch

Description: Offered for auction here is the booklet entitled "Algeria-French Morocco". It was code-named "Operation Torch" and was the introduction of US troops into the Mediterranean and North Africa. Axis forces from Italy had invaded North Africa in the late 1930s, and Germany came to the rescue of the inept Italians when the British battled German General Erwin Rommel in Egypt and Libya. "Operation Torch" involved the invasion of Allied troops into French Morocco on the Atlantic Coast, along with landings on Mediterranean cities in Algeria. US armies were led by General George Patton. US troops succeeded in the attack on Morocco and proceeded inland. Other armies took landfall near Oran and Arzew, while a third task force invaded Algeria near Algiers. Each booklet addressed such topics as the (a) the strategic setting of the area, (b) military operations, and (c) an analysis of that campaign. The publications are well-illustrated with multiple color maps of the battlefields, routes of advance by the troops, and defensive lines. There are also black-and-white photographs. Each booklet measures appx 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches closed, 11 x 8 1/2 inches opened, and is printed on a high-quality semi-glossy paperstock. All are unused and in mint condition. Over the coming weeks, I will be offering for sale booklets from this set. You can find all listings by entering the Ebay keywords "US Army Campaigns of World War". Other armies took landfall near Oran and Arzew, while a third task force invaded Algeria near Algiers. As a result of the invasions, the Allies gained substantial footholds in North Africa at the cost of relatively few dead and wounded. This publication has some great maps, to include a map of North Africa showing invasion points for "Operation Torch", for the Western Task Force near Safi and Port Lyauley, for the Western Task force near Casablanca, for the Center Task Force near Oran, and for the Eastern Task Force at Algiers. This publication, which contains 32 pages, is in excellent, virtual mint, condition. There are no rips or tears, no writing or markings, no spills or smears, and the binding is secure with all pages firmly in place.   Pictures sell!
