Description: Offered for auction here is the booklet entitled "Algeria-French Morocco". It was code-named "Operation Torch" and was the introduction of US troops into the Mediterranean and North Africa. Axis forces from Italy had invaded North Africa in the late 1930s, and Germany came to the rescue of the inept Italians when the British battled German General Erwin Rommel in Egypt and Libya. "Operation Torch" involved the invasion of Allied troops into French Morocco on the Atlantic Coast, along with landings on Mediterranean cities in Algeria. US armies were led by General George Patton. US troops succeeded in the attack on Morocco and proceeded inland. Other armies took landfall near Oran and Arzew, while a third task force invaded Algeria near Algiers.
