Description: TITLE: U.S. POST OFFICE PENLAND, NCThe first time I saw this post office I thought it was wrong for the tax payers to pay for such a dilapidated building out in the middle of no-where-man. But each consecutive time that I visited I began to understand why it is so important to many people. It's part of history, and deserves to stand proud, and some day it will again. On the day that I took the original photo that I used as a guide for my painting there were no cats around. However, normally there are cats and you can see a glimpse of a white cat dish tucked in a hole of the foundation board. Constructed in 1902 (although, some readings say as early as 1879) the post office was on the right side of the building, and on the left was a lumber company. In later years that was replaced by the Carolina Mercantile and a store room for ladies dresses. The post office is worth a visit if you are in the area and is still fully operational. In the early days trains from the Clinchfield Railroad went very close to this building and even brought mail to the post office. Today Penland Post Office is on the National Register of Historic Places. Donations and fund raisers are being held to bring her back in all her glory! 8" x 10" acrylic painting on canvas board Professional quality paints have been used to create this beautiful painting. Prior to painting in acrylics, oils and now watercolors, I have drawn in graphite most of my life. I have sold on eBay for 13 years but mostly by word of mouth. Thanks for looking!Smoke-Free, Pet-Free StudioAny painting over $50.00 will arrive requiring a signature, this is so that I know that you received your painting. There is far too much theft to leave this outdoors if you are not home.
