Description: PHAROAH SANDERS Live at The East. Used vintage gatefold LP (not RE) in Very Good/Very Good condition. ABC Impulse! Records Catalog # AS 9227; 1972 Condition: 50+ year old vinyl has areas of discoloration that don’t affect sound, but my very honest grading holds it to simply VG. Side One surface quieter than average LP, Side Two average. Played very few times. The jacket has these small flaws, but again I am compelled to hold grading to VG: some long (but shallow) scratches on front; a very small rip near middle of right side as viewed from front; minor crinkles at some corners; and a very small hole at lower left of jacket as seen from back. I may have bought this as a cut-out back in the 1970s, but I have never seen a hole this small to indicate a marked down item. The hole barely penetrates to the front of the jacket. NOTE that the selections listing on the jacket is in error; go by what the LP labels say. The inner sleeve, which has major wrinkles (sorry about that), is quite unusual (see pics). It presents a silhouetted photo of a woman, someone’s idea of a Muse perhaps? Behind the Music: (finally!) As you are doubtless aware if you are interested in this music, the late Mr. Sanders could play as “out” as any Jazzer. But he also made much music of sublime beauty. Only Side One of this album, BTW, was recorded live at The East, a small club in lower Manhattan. PERSONNEL: Sanders—saxophone [misspelled as “saxaphone”]; Harold Vick [misspelled as “Vic”]—reeds, voice; Carlos Garnett—flute, voice; Marvin ‘Hannibal’ Peterson—trumpet; Joe Bonner—piano, harmonium; Cecil McBee and Stanley Clarke—bass; Norman Connors [misspelled as “Conners”], William Hart, Lawrence Killian—drums and percussion. Album produced by Lee Young. The inside of the gatefold jacket contains a statement of Pharoah’s spiritual belief system. About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow. New items added weekly, check back often! PLEASE NOTE: I will not sell anything for less than $9.99, as it’s not worth packaging the item up and taking it to the Post Office. Sure, you can buy an LP for 50 cents or less at a yard sale, but will it have been cared for like mine? Not likely. FREE SHIPPING to U.S. address for purchase of any item of $100 or more.
