Description: Vintage Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 (Meyer-Optik Oreston), M42 MF Lens, Germany w/Caps and Hood very good condition - serviced - part of the A/M switch-cover is broken (see below) The Meyer-Optik Görlitz Oreston 50mm f/1.8 lens was manufactured in East Germany between 1960-1971. Afterwards, when Meyer-Optik Görlitz was merged into the Pentacon company, the lens was continued as Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 and had Multicoating (a significant improvement when shooting into the light).Initially, for a limited time, it was manufactured with a red distance scale, that was later replaced by a green one. It is famous for its distinctive vintage look with a painterly bokeh when used wide open, and for its sharpness when stopped down. It has an all-metal construction with a minimum focus distance of only 0.33m and a focus throw of 340 degrees, perfect for precision manual focusing. The aperture is made of six curved blades and covers a range from 1.8 to 16. The filter diameter is 49mm. With its M42 screw mount (sometimes also referred to as "Praktica-" or "Pentax mount"), it can be adapted to most modern digital cameras (fullframe, APS-C, micro four-thirds, etc.), using cheap (less than $12) adapters (make sure you get one with a 'lip' like those from Fotasy which you can get on Ebay - the 'lip' is needed to press down the aperture pin). This piece, with serial number 9,158,269 was produced in the 1980's. The lens is in very good condition, optically (see pictures) and mechanically. It has no dents, and only signs of normal use (see pictures), except that a part of the A/M switch-cover is broken off (as seen in pictures 7 and 10) - it does not affect the function of the A/M switch in any way. The focusing helicoids have recently been cleaned and re-lubed and the aperture was cleaned. The focusing is smooth and the aperture is snappy - the diaphragm is free of any traces of oil. The glass is clean with no haze or fungus or balsamic separation and only small amounts of dust that do not affect pictures (see pictures). It comes with (non-original) front and rear caps and a hood - and it ships from the US.The photos are of the actual item for sale. Yes, you may certainly find cheaper Oreston/Pentacon lenses on Ebay. But please keep in mind that 98% of those have oily (and often non-functioning) aperture blades and/or an extremely stiff focus (due to sticky old grease). The few extra bucks for this one give a you a piece that you can truly enjoy to work with.
