Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a classic 1st generation (1950's era) DuKane 7A160 model dynamic cardioid microphone based on the more familiar and common Electro Voice 664 dynamic cardioid microphone. Often referred to as "The Buchanan Hammer" salesman would demonstrate it's toughness and reliability by pounding nails into a piece wood with the mic then hooking it up to show that it would still work without issue. This microphone was not used as a hammer...obviously but does show typical wear from over the decades. It comes with a long 4 pin cable in which to operate as well. DuKane was well know company back in the 1950's & 60's that sold a variety of electronics equipment and they had sold a few different E.V made mics under contract during that time. The 7A160 model was one of them. The 7A160 is no different than the 664 other than the DuKane badge that sits by the on / off switch. The 7A160 is just a little more exotic as you don't see many of them around. An interesting conversation piece and an excellent mic all around. Pic # 3 shows an old E.V data sheet with all the basic characteristics of this mic. You can always make a copy of this to keep with the mic. The 664 was a revolutionary mic being tough, reliable, great sounding and having a uni-directional pattern only picking up what was directly in front of the microphone cancelling out all background noise. It was the standard for all other mics of it's era and sounds as good as most quality mics built today if the 664 is in good working order. This 7A160 / 664 has been thoroughly cleaned, tested and gone over. You'll have no issues with any mics I sell. This particular mic is in perfect working condition and currently set at High impedance giving you a clear, smooth tone that's void of bass. This will be ideal for general broadcasting or harp purposes. If you want a 664 with an old school "rockabilly" tone then I would suggest buying a 664 set at High Impedance. If you want a 664 with more bass and a warmer tone then a Low impedance mic is the way to go. Again, this is set for High Z and the signal strength is 100%. Buyers beware...these chromed bodies DO NOT polish out. If there is pitting, scratches or engravings they do not come out. Don't be fooled thinking they will look like new once the damage is done as many sellers are claiming. Again, the polished chrome body on this 664 shows typical wear. No engravings but there is a bit of pitting and some small scratches here and there. The DuKane label looks very nice. The front screen has zero deformation, odors or tarnish. The on / off switch works perfect as well. This 664 has a new foam inner pop filter to cut down on unwanted "pops" from breathing or windy conditions. The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and it's adjustable via side screw. The on / off switch was cleaned and works just as it should and slides smoothly. The threading for the cable and stand are perfect...nothing stripped or fractured. I would rate this mic a very conservative 7 physically speaking on a scale of 1 - 10. There is a nice vintage 25 foot, 4 pin screw on cable included to operate this mic. More than enough length for any live or studio application. The cable is soft, pliable and free of damage. It has a quality Switchcraft male 1/4 inch end connector to work with most audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers. A great combo package deal all around. The 664 will screw onto any desk or floor stand you choose to use but I would suggest getting a stand with a heavy or wider base due to the top heavy nature of this mic. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE AND USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY... As with all my other vintage microphones... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The return shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. International buyers are welcome as well. BUYER MUST PAY WITHIN 24 HOURS or will lose rights to this item, unpaid item report will be filed and will be relisted. If you don't intend on buying this...do not commit to buy please. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
