Description: Vintage wooden chopping/cutting bowl from Japan for an ulu-type knife. Cutting marks are visible inside the bowl, indicating its use as a chopping/cutting bowl rather than an individual serving bowl (although it could have been used for both). There is a small stain in the bowl (which appears to be superficial and could probably be removed, if desired, with light sanding) and a knot visible on the back side (see photos). Dimensions of the square block are approximately 6" x 5.75" x 2". The bowl itself is 1.5" deep at center. The block is a single, solid piece of wood as you can see by the very visible radial lines and growth rings. This is a neat piece and in very good vintage condition.
