Description: My mother used Magnalite growing up and that's all I wanted when I set up my own house, so my mom gifted me a set. I still use them all except this large one. I just don't cook that much food at one time. I only used it a few times. The metal handle ensures it can go from stove top to oven without a problem Some people call the insert a "trivet". My mother told me it was supposed to go inside the pot during cooking to keep things from boiling over. I have a similar device with my round pot and it things never boil over when I have it in the pot. Pretty cool device!
