From the collectors book "Russian Lacquer Legends and Fairy tales By Lucy Maxym" "Art is inspired by the Russian fairy tale of Ruslan and Ludmilla. Ruslan is one of three suitors hoping for the hand of the dukes daughter Ludmilla. When Ludmilla disappears the duke promises her hand to the suitor that can bring her home. Ruslans search brings him to an old battlefield where a large head appears. After defeating the head with a lance he finds, a magical sword appears. He then uses this sword to find Ludmilla defeat her captor and return her home. They are then married and live happily ever after." This piece comes from a beautiful estate filled with treasures.
