Description: W F & Co. Wells Fargo Pony Express Saddle Blanket Fringed Appliqué. Fresh from an older gentleman’s estate in Lancaster County is this interesting blanket. His ID tag on his museum like collection reads’ “Saddle Blanket allegedly used by W.F. Co. Rider.” With or without the provenance, this piece is worth a closer look. The old tightly woven wool has almost a deerskin look to it. Measuring 52” square, it is fully surrounded by 8” fringes. Full measurement would be 68” square. Throughout this piece are thicker squares and pieces of a darker wool material. Hand stitched as a reinforcement for possible heavier wear areas. The entire blanket has an entwined appliqué of ovals and rectangles, also hand stitched and some have additional embroidery. This was a true labor of love. There are a few insect holes and discolorations in spots. Please review the photos for all condition details.
