Description: A smashing example of a World War One Other Ranks Brass Cap Badge for the 7th Battalion (Territorial) Hampshire Regiment The 7th Battalion Hants Regimentwas a unit of the Territorial Force serving withHampshire Infantry Brigade, Wessex Division Just before the Great War war broke out in August 1914they and other Hants Battalions, convened on Salisbury Plain for their Annual Summer Camp, however as war was declared just a few days later,they broke camp and moved to take up defensive positions at the UK's Home Ports. On the 6th of August they fully mobilised and returned to Salisbury Plain to prepare for overseas service. The Wessex Division was ordered to India to replace regular Indian & British Regular Army units that were being deployed to The Western Front in Belgium & France. The 7th, along with other Hampshire Battalions, sailed from Southampton on October 19th 1914and arrived in Karachi on November 11th..serving in India untilJanuary 1918 when they were further deployed to Aden. A very attractive issued O.R.'s cap badge, measuring approx 2" across, bearing a lovely dark patina,(and evidence of much Brasso & verdigris to the rear),and still retaining its original two lugs, this is a very good lookingWW-I Army Other Rank's Cap Badgefrom our home county of Hampshire .
