Description: This is a custom 12" figure lot commemorating some of the most colorful figures of the Old West, the Earp brothers- Wyatt (3-19-1848- 1-13-1929), Morgan (4-24-1851- 3-18-1882), Virgil (7-18-1843- 10-19-1905), and Wyatt's friend, John Henry "Doc" Holliday (8-14-1851- 11-8-1887). John Holliday earned a degree from the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery when he was 20 years old. Doctor Holliday set up his practice in Atlanta, Ga. but was soon diagnosed with tuberculosis. Doc Holliday moved to the American southwest (eventually settling in Tombstone Az.) because it was thought the climate might help his condition. Doc had become a professional gambler. Throughout Doc's early gambling and traveling years, he had enough armed confrontations that earned him a reputation as a deadly gunman.The Earps had worked at different occupations during their life, including law enforcement. Though more apt to use his fists (or gun barrel across the head) than shooting to keep law and order, Wyatt became one of the best known lawmen of the old West. While he was in Texas, Doc saved Wyatt's life and the two became life long friends. Eventually the Earps and Doc Holliday would end up in Tombstone AZ. at the same time. The Earps had some business interests (saloon owners, mining, brothels) in Tombstone and Doc was playing poker. Arguably the most famous gunfight in the old West (the Gunfight at the OK Corral) involved both the Earps and Doc Holliday. Virgil had become town Marshal, with Morgan and Wyatt as special policeman. Doc would eventually be named as a temporary policeman. This group of lawmen found themselves in conflict with a loosely organized group of outlaws called the Cowboys. Among the Cowboys were the Clantons and the McLaurys, as well as Curly Bill Brocious and Johnny Ringo. The Cowboys also had a simpathetic local lawman, county sheriff named John Behan. The Cowboys would rustle cattle on both sides of the border, committ stage holdups, robberies, and about anything else they could think of. After months of threats and confrontations in dealing with the Cowboys the Earps and a deputized Doc Holliday confronted five of the Cowboys at the O.K. Corral, on October 26th, 1881. (the gunfight actually happened in an empty lot by CS Fly's Photographic Studio about six doors west of the rear entrance of the OK Corral).That thirty second gun battle linked Holliday and the Earps in history together forever. During the battle, Cowboys Billy Clanton and both McLaury brothers (Tom and Frank) were killed. Ike Clanton and Billy Claiborne ran from the shootout. The lawmen, Morgan, Virgil, and Doc were wounded. That gunfight did not end things. On December 28th, 1881 Virgil was ambushed while walking down the street. Virgil survived but lost the use of his left arm. On March 18, 1882- Morgan was ambushed while shooting pool at a saloon and died. Wyatt would be named Deputy US Marshal and organized a posse to hunt down the Cowboys, killing many of them. Ike Clanton would leave the area. Johnny Ringo was found dead proped up under a tree. It is not certain who shot him. Virgil would go on the be a lawman and miner in other areas. He contracted pneumonia and died in 1905. Wyatt would do many things after Tombstne including law enforcement, horse racing, refing prize fights, mining, and movie consultant. He would die in 1929 of bladder infection. Doc Holliday died of tuberculosis at the age of 36 (1887) in Glenwood Springs Colorado. PLEASE NOTE-while this figure lot does not look exactly like the Earps or Doc Holliday, there is a bit of a resemblance. These figures come with a custom gunbelts and holsters. The guns are from marxman. stands included. Figure lot designed mainly for display purposes for the wild west fan. This would make a nice addition to any collection. sold as seen. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own.
