The key plating is beautiful and the corks and springs work very well. The body of the instrument has very minimal scratching and no cracks. This model has been one of the most popular band clarinets because it's well built and easy to play. This Yamaha has been thoroughly reconditioned: It was completely disassembled and cleaned, the keys were hand polished and all new Valentino pads were installed. In addition, the keys were lubricated and their height was adjusted when the clarinet was re-assembled. That means that not only will this clarinet be a fine player now, but it will continue to perform well for years with minimal servicing. The current Yamaha student models all come with this same Valentino style of pads (which are more durable), so in that respect this clarinet is just as good as a new one. I started playing clarinet 60 years ago and these days I restore clarinets exclusively. Over the years I've refurbished more than 1,200 of these Bb horns, many of which have been sold here on eBay.
